What's New from Author @GailGMartin September 2011 #michlit

What's New?
From Author
Gail Gaymer Martin
September 2011

August was a wonderful month for many reasons. First I was home the whole month except for a short two day pleasure trip with family. I also celebrated my birthday twice. On August 21 we had a big family event at our house celebrating the July, August and September birthdays which involved seven people, including my husband and I. Everyone agreed to order pizza and salad, but topped it off with all kinds of homemade birthday desserts.

Among the gifts from my husband was a Kindle and he had downloaded numerous novels so when I travel I am well-stocked with books by my favorite authors. On Sunday, August 28—my birthday—we used a gift certificate, along with my sister, her husband and two nieces, and enjoyed a wonderful dinner celebration at Bahama Breeze Restaurant. Bob surprised me with a lovely pair of handcrafted earrings that I had admired at an art show. He's always filled with amazing surprises.

I forgot to mention last month my humorous experience finding the "baños" which is the restroom at the convent turned restaurant in Guadalajara. I asked directions in Spanish and received "pointing" instructions from the waitress. I wandered up and down the hall and couldn't find anything marked baños. I stopped again at a short hallway that looked like some kind of prayer rooms or religious rooms, and then realized. The Monk was the men's restroom and the Nun was the women's.

Our church praise team, Re-Generation, had the opportunity to participate in an outdoor praise event in Berkley, Michigan. Each praise band sang five songs. It was a lovely evening and an amazing way to spread God's word to the surrounding community. Our drummer is hidden behind the speaker, but we have nine members, and you can see me in the white Capris second from the end on the left.

When a new novel is released, authors always wait to hear comments from readers, and so I have been thrilled after A Family Of Their Own hit the stores late in August when I've heard wonderful comments about the book. Here's an example if you'd like to read this review from the blog of one of my readers, click here.  Love Inspired novels are only in stores for 1 month so get there fast.

And don't forget, in late October, you'll find the 2-in-1 book, Christmas Gifts, including my short novel, Small Town Christmas. I'm hoping you enjoy this novel as much as I did writing it. You'll see a link below to pre-order if you are interested.

RECIPE

Tortillas and Eggs

This is the simplest recipe you'll ever get from me, but it's one that I absolutely love. We invented this idea while camping, and now I heard that iHop Restaurants have added this idea to their menu so I guess I was way ahead of the time.

If you enjoy scrambled eggs or even omelets for breakfast, lunch or even dinner, you can add a zing to the traditional version. Here's what I do.

2 tsp. Canola oil
1/8 Cup of diced onions
2 Tbsp of Jimmy Deans' sausage crumbles (turkey or pork)
2 eggs or Eggbeater equivalent
2 handfuls of traditional tortilla chips crumbled
1/4 Cup of cheese (your favorite)
Splash of salsa (optional)

You can vary this recipe and takeaway or add things that you enjoy such as mushrooms or ham instead of sausage.

To my fry pan, I add the canola oil, diced onions and Jimmy Dean's sausage crumbles. I sauté that and then add eggs and quickly blend them with the meat and onions. Before this mixture has time to set, add crumbled tortilla chips from a bag. Let these cook as you like them, and then top with your favorite cheese. I often flip over one side so it looks like an omelet. Voila! You have an amazing South of the Border breakfast. If you're a fan of salsa, some people enjoy topping it with their favorite salsa.

FAITH THOUGHT

In Psalms 46:2-3, we read: Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. When we listen to the news or read our newspapers, this verse has new meaning. All around us we are experiencing one natural disaster after another. Some people blame global warming and man's destruction of nature. Some see this as a sign of end-times. No matter how we view the tragedies around us, we have assurance that this is our temporary home. God has not forsaken us. His promises are sure, and one day we will enter the gates of heaven and reside in a mansion prepared for us and those we love. Revelations 21:4 reminds us that the children of God should not fear. He (God) will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. Praise the Lord for his faithfulness to His children and pray that all may come to know Him before the end of the earth as we know it.
